Cadillac

by Bill Jepsen

directed by Chad Rabinovitz

"I'm finally going to own a Cadillac. It's still the American dream, isn't it?" -Fred
"I don't convince people. I help people." - Art

The Bloomington Playwrights Project announces the production of Cadillac by Bill Jepsen, a hit new entertainment from Chicago about the moral dilemmas faced by car dealers. Cadillac puts a profound contemporary twist on the lives of America's sales people as popularized in such classics as Glengarry Glen Ross. In a time where everyone is out to point the finger at someone or something for America's woes (big government, banks, insurance companies, etc.), Cadillac reminds the audience that the answers are a little more complicated.

The BPP's new Producing Artistic Director, Chad Rabinovitz, will direct the show, his first for the company.

"Cadillac is my chance to show this community what the BPP is capable of achieving artistically," says Rabinovitz. "I couldn't be more excited as it is truly one of the best new scripts I've read in years."

Gerard Pauwels plays Howard Austin, an atypical used car salesman who treats every customer at Lindy Motors as if they're special. Valuing loyalty and service, he has built his career on principles in an industry mired with sharks and hucksters. Fred (Thomas Thompson), an older man facing retirement, has finally saved enough money through a lifetime of work to purchase his dream car: A Cadillac. But a problem with his credit report postpones the deal and leaves Howard to decide whether he should push his customer into a different car and save his valued sales record or to sell Fred the car of his dreams.

Frank Buczolich, Kathleen Boyd, Brett Gloden, Mary Carol Reardon and Bill Goveia round out this stellar cast.

Cadillac is an extraordinary new drama that deals with timely, important issues while remaining a fantastic theatrical entertainment. With a talented cast and high production values, Cadillac is set to be the must-see show of the BPP's thirtieth anniversary season.

The BPP will also be hosting special events throughout the run of the production. The Saturday, January 30th performance will be followed immediately by a special Talkback & Reception with the playwright and director featuring light appetizers and beverages. The reception is free to ticket holders of that evening's performance. Thursday, February 4th show will be a special "Lights Out" Performance to promote the BPP's new green initiatives for the coming season and will also feature a light appetizer reception. Tickets for the "Lights Out" show are only $5.
