Girls Camp of Rock
It's Your Turn to Rock Out!
The Girls Camp of Rock builds self-esteem and develops performance technique, while letting girls just rock out! Campers will learn how to tap into their self-expressive nature while being mentored by the community’s women in rock’n’roll. Through workshops on songwriting, rhythm and movement, Girls Camp of Rock will bring out the inner rockstar in every camper! Not to mention, participants will gain the experience of performing in a real music venue.
Each girl will write and perform her own song
• Pick the one song you like BEST from music we provide or you write
• Write lyrics and melody with the help of a counselor
• Prepare a performance through Camp workshops
• Present your song in Camp and work on the performance
• Perform your song at the recital. Include an instrument, if you want.
Who you will meet and work with:
• Professional musicians and songwriters who will mentor your song writing and performance
• A choreographer and dance instructor gives daily workshops
• A professional photographer who will take a promotional photo for you in your costume
• A professional hairstylist and make-up artist is there to help you with a fun look
• Guest artists will perform and give you insights into their work and tips on being successful
What you will create
• A collage to introduce yourself to the other girls and to illustrate what you love and care about in your life
• A tee shirt decorated by you
• A costume to wear in performance
• A mask to help you explore the emotional content of your song
Sessions also include:
• Drumming and rhythm workshop
• Intro to stagecraft, lighting and sound
• Music theory of blues and rock
• Vocal workshops and performance technique
• History of women in rock n roll
• Lunch and snacks for every day of the camp
Parent and Camper Testimonials from the 2010 camp session:
One mother wrote in a thank you note: “[My daughter] has learned so much this week and has been empowered in so many ways. She also loved the lunches and special guests. I paid way too little for such a cool experience!”
After Professor Glenn Glass, the Rock 'n' Roll History class at Indiana University came to visit, one student said: “Joan Jett stuck in my head from his presentation; most girls aren’t tough like her - she influenced me. Showed me that 'inner girl power' is okay."
